I've just had a few friends over for dinner. Well, I was in the supermarket yesterday, and they had duck half price, so I just had to buy one. And there's no point cooking roast duck for one, so then I had to invite a couple of friends over, and then another couple of friends rang to say hi, so I invited them too.
So, I duly roasted duck, potatoes, and butternut pumkin. For once, I managed to get the roasties just right - crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside - yum. The gravy definately benefitted from nearly half a bottle of wine, and we definately benefitted from a bottle or three more. We started with a good, fruity, in-your-face Aussie Shiraz, which went well with the rich flavour of the duck.
Large quantities of food and wine later, my friends all headed off at at a surprisingly early hour, so I chucked the telly on for some background entertainment while I finished my wine and posted a quick blog.
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was just about to start which I enjoyed greatly first time round, so on it went. Usually I can work on the internet quite well with the telly on in the backgound - well, I'm a girl, so I'm good at multi-tasking! But this is a film with subtitles, and it's just not possible to read subtitles and type at the same time. And what is it that makes me want to turn the sound up? Am I trying the English thing in reverse: speak louder and I'll understand it dagnammit?! So anyway, this post is being typed out in the ad breaks - forgive me if it's a tad disjointed.
But every after dinner subtitle has its silver lining - I can't do the washing up, either!
