My motorcycle club is hosting it's yearly bike rally next weekend. Oh my, next weekend!!! Actually, we've got a great group of people now, so most of the organising just happens after a few year's practise, but there's still the odd little thing that slips through the net. This year one of them is the bands, which is usually my baby. Well, I booked the main bands for Friday and Saturday nights, but then I made the fatal mistake of bogging off to the other side of the world for a few weeks.
I left the booking of the support band for Saturday night to the rest of the club to sort out. One of the guys had a band he was very keen on, so he went ahead and booked them. Unfortunately, it turns out that several of the band members work on Saturday, so they may not be able to make it for the time we need them to start. This is not good. They've been less than forthcoming about a definitive yes or no, which is also somewhat frustrating. Luckily, the chap who played support last year (a most excellent blues slide guitarist by the name of Will Killeen) would be only too happy to play again this year if the opportunity presents itself, so we have a backup plan (phew!). Normally, I don't like to book the same bands for more than one year, no matter how good, but I am prepared to make an exception in this case - one because needs must, and two because the guy is just amazing. So we shall see...
Other than that, all there is left for me to do over the weekend is pop into the pubs and shop in the village where we hold the rally to warn them we're on our way - they love the extra business we bring them, but it's only polite to warn them. Oh, and sort out my motorbikes so that I can lend one to a friend on his way over from Australia for a holiday next week. And nip into the local bike shops to scrounge some raffle prizes (all proceeds to charity of course). And catch up on my paperwork. And get some invoices out and update my accounts. And do some training. And sort the garden and the house out, and, and...
Did someone mention a holiday weekend? I do so love being self employed *grin* !
