I have just qualified as a certified Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP as it's rather less tongue-twistingly known. It's funny that something that's really all about communication and the language we use to ourselves and each other should be so bewilderingly named! It's also a slippery one to define, and I'll give it a go: NLP is a toolbox of techniques which can be used to empower clients to break old patterns and realise their unlimited potential, in all areas of their lives. So it's pretty darned cool, really! The week that I spent on the "classroom" based part of the training with Inner Compass, despite its 12-14 hour days, has to be one of the best weeks of my life, and I now feel strong, confident, and ready to go out onto the world to help others to make positive changes to their lives.
As we were taught the tools and techniques, we were given the task of working with each other to implement them, both as client and practitioner. In doing so we dealt with a whole heap of our own "stuff", as well as helping each other to do the same. Wow - what a double whammy! Despite coming across to others as a totally confident person, I was very good at putting on a front, hiding my lack of confidence and low self-esteem behind it. Now it's all changed - I have become much more my true self, full of true confidence and self-worth. Instead of acting the part, I am living it. It's hard to convey just how powerful that is, and the double-whammy comes from knowing that I have helped others towards the same. As a friend of mine puts it, I am in a place of quiet inner-knowing, and it's a very nice place to be.
If this is how I feel after the Practitioner level, just think what it'll be like after Master NLP Practitioner in November! By the time I have completed my NLP Trainers training in March next year, I know that I will be soaring with the eagles.
I cannot thank all the people on the course and the Inner Compass staff and coaches enough for what they have given me.
Look out world, here I come!
