After an exciting time at Alan's Masterclass last week, and a great chat this morning with one of the contacts I made there, I'm really honing in on my need to focus. I've had such an amazing year, one of huge changes and growth, and at times, heartache and sorrow. I've learnt a huge amount on all sorts of different subjects (though it's amazing how they all have that one recurring theme mentioned in my earlier post!), and have ideas and plans constantly buzzing through my head. It's tremendously exciting, and also tremendously frustrating, as most projects have yet to come to fruition. I gather this is a common theme for the entrepreneurial mind...
So what does this mean? I am running a pattern of mine, which is to get all excited about something new, rush right into it, get halfway through, and then go, "Wow! Look at that over there!", and rush off to do that instead, leaving the previous project unfinished. Think of a kiddy in a toy store and you're on the right track. I love new things and embrace challenge and change, which on the one hand is a huge strength, and on the other, a bit of a weakness, in that I have this tendency not to finish. What that means is that I don't get the end results that I'm after, for example getting the eBook finished, on the web, selling, and bringing me money in! Not so good...
This, then, is my challenge. How can I bring myself to focus on finishing the race and getting the prize? Then I can go on and start the next one, and finish that before starting the next. It all sounds so easy, doesn't it? One of the ways that definitely works for me is to pay someone else to do the stuff I don't really want to or know I won't get round to. I have finally bitten the bullet and taken on a part-time admin lady to help me to get my paperwork and books up to date. I'm looking for an accountant so I never, ever have to do a tax return again, not to mention reaching the point with three businesses on the go and the property investing stuff that I truly believe a good one will save me more than they will cost me (what was that I said about focus?!?).
And now another potential opportunity has landed in my lap: two of my best friends have found a B&B they want to buy in New Zealand, which means selling up here in the UK and shipping out. Provided they can do the deal with the B&B owners at the right price, sell their house and be sure that they can get the Business Visa for New Zealand, they could be off in a few months. I've always liked their house - it's a little bigger than mine, and has great potential for improvements, plus it would overcome one of my challenges on the coaching and therapy front in that it has a room that would be ideal as a consulting room. So I'm thinking, if I can't have my friends here, I can at least have their house! I can rent mine out, move in there, and gradually make the improvements that would increase its value (and my comfort!). Now, can I raise the dosh?
So here's the rub: now has to be the time I finally get my act together, get some of these many projects finished, and get the money rolling in. I have the concrete (well, OK, bricks and mortar) target in mind, I have the vision, I have the desire.
Wish me luck and watch this space!
Hi Sarah,
Your coach Oni B with virtual hugs here!
OK you seem to have made progress in starting off a number of new things, without finishing others.
First of all - can I refer you to your ' Mental Game of Money' notes. In particular about COMPLETIONS and the LAWS OF ENERGY.
Here's a recap of them:
1. WE ARE ALL OR NOTHING CREATURES.
2. INCOMPLETIONS DRAIN ENERGY
3. COMPLETIONS GIVE YOU ENERGY - THEY RESTORE ENERGY TO OUR PSYCHE.
THERE ARE £ WAYS TO COMPLETE THINGS.
1) COMPLETE IT
2) SCHEDULE A TIME TO
COMPLETE IT
3) DECLARE IT COMPLETE
NEVER DELAY - GET THING DONE!
In your case I think you need to write down what you want to achieve. You need to be GOAL ORIENTATED and be able to FOCUS on what you want.
Let's see if you do the one week and the six month ones and work towards it.
I think we should, as discussed, speak on Sunday afternoon about our coach and coachee roles.
I've started reviewing Topher's notes and hope to have made some progress in working toward my own goals.
OK more virtual hugs from me, and speak to you at the weekend.
BE OUTSTANDING IN WHATEVER YOU DO!
YOURS ONI X
XXXXX
By the way have you started the walking/exercise regime yet as you promised?
