Last night I went to the Oxford Yes Group, where we enjoyed a great talk from Eric Edmeades on Perfect Day Planning. Well I'm happy to say that today has been pretty darned perfect! I started early at the Wantage & District Business Breakfast Club, where I had a lovely chat with Polly Vacher, the author of Wings Around the World. Polly is an amazing woman who has flown solo around the world not once, but twice, and this book tells the story of her second circumnavigation, this time taking the rather more unusual route via both Poles. To quote from the book, "Despite having only a few years of flying experience, Polly, a
59-year-old mother of three, had already completed a lateral solo
circumnavigation of the world in 2001 for the charity Flying
Scholarships for the Disabled; this second challenge, for the same
charity, would make that achievement look like a casual jaunt."
What an inspiration!
Next on the agenda was a meeting with a charity that makes radio programmes that travel the world (are you spotting a pattern here?), to quote for supplying their IT support. Fascinating, and well worth the guided tour I received whether I win the contract or not.
Last and by no means least, I finally made it along to my local Toastmasters club, the Ridgeway Speakers. I happened to pick a rather unusual night for my first visit, as tonight was competition night. This gave me the opportunity of seeing both speakers and evaluators in full throttle, and what a great bunch of folk they all were! I shall definitely be back for the next meeting, if only to find out what a "normal" one is like. Of course it helped that one of the members is an old friend who I hadn't seen for some time, and we've invited each other to our respective birthday parties that are coming up soon - result!
So all in all, a great day! I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow will bring...
