Sunday dawned, bright, clear, and most of all, sunny. Thoughts of going out for a nice walk in the sunshine crossed my mind. Then I noticed it: the sunlight streaming in through the windows. Shining on the dust. Shining on the dirty windows. Shining on the general grubbliness of it all. It was no good, I'd have to clean. And clean I did. Have you ever done this? I'll just clean this bit here, and then you've created a clean patch, which shows up how grubby everything that you haven't cleaned is, so you have to get stuck in to that too. And so it goes on...
Four hours later, I've listened to and sung along with the whole of War of the Worlds (great music to clean to!), and the place is starting to look a little less like a bomb's hit it. The surfaces and windows are shining, I've hoovered top to bottom, I've even descaled the kitchen sink and restored it to its original sparkle (oh the joys of living in a hard water area! Spray on and just rinse off cleaners? I don't think so!). There's still some work to do, but I've definately cracked the worst of it. And it feels good, sitting back on the sofa with a cup of tea, chatting to an old friend who'd dropped by, enjoying the fruits of my labour.
So today I was in town running a few chores, and just happend to glance into the windows of the lovely little shoe shop we have in one of the side streets, Lady Macbeth Shoes (great name). Guess what? A sale! I was magically transported through the doors, and inside I was like a kiddy in a sweet shop with the amazing deals that they had on to clear out some of their lines and make space for the summer stock that was due in. After trying on several pairs, I happily walked out the proud owner of a couple of gorgeous new pairs of shoes and boots, and all for less than I'd usually pay for just one. Bargain!
Co-incidence? I choose to think not! A great reward for a days spring cleaning, and I'm a happy bunny. Imelda Marcos eat your heart out - these little babies were earnt!
